Adaptive Equipment Fitting and Education

The occupational therapists at Franciscan Healthcare can take into account patients’ needs and abilities to determine and recommend adaptive equipment or assistive technology to support safe participation in occupations (activities) that are important to the patient. Examples of adaptive equipment/assistive technology:

  • Dressing equipment (reacher, sockaid, long-handled shoehorn, elastic shoe laces, buttonhole)
  • Wheelchair and seating/positioning systems
  • Bathroom equipment (toilet risers, shower chairs/benches, grab bars)
  • Low vision equipment (magnification systems, auditory alerts, enlarged print items, high contrast items)
  • Home modifications (ramps, chair lifts, vertical platform lifts)
