Cardiopulmonary Rehab

Cardiac Rehabilitation

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is certified through the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.  We are one of the few Critical Access Hospitals that are certified both in Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.  Patients may qualify for Cardiac Rehabilitation if they have experienced cardiac bypass surgery, valve surgery, a heart attack, chest pain, a stent placement, or heart failure.  A physician order is required for Cardiac Rehabilitation. Franciscan Healthcare also offers ongoing exercise programs for cardiac patients after they have completed the Cardiac Rehabilitation program.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is certified through the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.  Patients may qualify for Pulmonary Rehabilitation if they have a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis, or other lung conditions.  A physician order is required for Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Franciscan Healthcare also offers ongoing exercise programs for pulmonary patients after they have completed the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program. 

Anticoagulation Clinic

Our Anticoagulation Clinic is designed to help patients safely manage their anticoagulation medications.  Anticoagulation medications include Coumadin/Warfarin, Pradaxa, Eliquis, and Xarelto and are commonly called “blood thinners.”  Your Physician will refer you to our clinic. The anticoagulation registered nurses are available for appointments Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Please call 402.372.4031 to speak with one of our nurses regarding this clinic.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Classes are held in March, July, and November from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Pre-registration required. Call 402.372.4020 OR 402.372.2404.
The cost is $45.00 plus the appropriate book needs to be purchased.
The book can be purchased at the hospital emergency room registration desk. The book needs to be purchased before the course.

First Aid with CPR (American Heart Association)

Classes are held in January, May, and September from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

The cost of the course is $55 plus the appropriate book needs to be purchased.
The book can be purchased at the Emergency Room desk during normal working hours.

CPR Anytime

CPR Anytime is a DVD based program that individuals may complete in their own homes. CPR Anytime is for anyone who wants to learn basic lifesaving skills but does not need a course completion card.  Adult and child kit OR Infant kit is available for rental for 48hours.  Each kit is $20 or if you rent both kits at the same time the cost is reduced to $30 for both. Lifeline

Is a personal emergency response system for clients to have in their home to obtain help in an emergency. A unit is installed in the client’s home and they wear a button to push if help is needed. To obtain more information please call 402.372.4020 or 402.372.2404.

Services

Cardiac Testing

Electrocardiograms: Electrocardiograms are offered 24 - 48 hours a day with a physician order.

Exercise Stress Testing: A stress test is done with the patient walking on the treadmill while being on a heart and blood pressure monitor. The results are usually given to the patient after completing the test.

Stress Echocardiograms: Stress echocardiograms are offered when cardiologists are available. The technician completes an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) and then a stress test is done by the patient walking on the treadmill. After the patient completes the actual stress test on the treadmill, an echocardiogram is then repeated. The Cardiologist reviews the results with the patient at the completion of the test. A physician order is required for this test.

Nuclear Stress Test: Lexascans are done in coordination with the Radiology Department.

Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms: Dobutamine stress echocardiograms are offered when cardiologists are available.

Echocardiograms: Ultrasound of the heart showing heart valves, heart chambers, and help to evaluate the pumping action of the heart.

Holter Monitors: Holter monitors are available with a physician order. A Holter Monitor is worn for 24 hours, recording the heartbeat continually.

Event Monitors: Event monitors are available with a physician order. An event monitor is worn for about a month to help evaluate heart problems that happen infrequently and are interpreted by the Cardiologists.

Zio Patch: A Zio Patch is a monitor that records every heartbeat for up to 14 days. your heart rhythm is evaluated and results sent to your physician.

24 Hour Blood Pressure Monitors: Twenty-four-hour blood pressure monitors are available with a physician order. This blood pressure monitor is worn for 24 hours to document readings intermittently during that time. The monitor records a reading every ½ hour during the day and every hour at night. The readings are printed out into a report and sent to the physician on the day the monitor is returned. 

Cardiology Clinic 

The consulting cardiologists from CHI-Bergan Mercy are Dr. Joseph Thibodeau, Dr. Amjad Kabach, Dr. Jeffrey Murray, and Elizabeth Anderson, PA-C. They have clinic most Tuesday of the month. A referral from your physician is required. 

Pulmonary

Josh Ridder, PA-C, is the consulting Pulmonologist and is available Monday through Friday.

Sleep Studies: Franciscan Healthcare is an accredited Sleep Program through the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) for In the Hospital Sleep Studies and for Home Sleep Studies. Sleep studies are offered through Franciscan Healthcare. Sleep studies require a physician order. The patient is usually asked to report to Franciscan Healthcare at about 9 p.m. The test is usually completed by 6 a.m and they will be ready to go home. The test is sent in to be interpreted by a physician who specializes in reading sleep studies. The report usually takes about 10 to 14 days to return. The results need to be obtained from the ordering physician. Home Sleep Studies require patients to pick up the Home Sleep Test equipment in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department. the sleep test is performed in the privacy of the patient's home and then brought back to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department. The data is sent to the pulmonologist for interpretation and the results are returned in 5 to 7 days. Franciscan Healthcare in the Hospital Sleep Study Program and the Home Sleep Study Program are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC).
